Recap from Drink + Draw

As soon as it is announced, I mark it on my calendar. When the day arrives, I fidget and try to hide my glances at the clock. I get there early. EARLY. And I’m not early to anything.

AIGA’s Drink+Draw is that event.

Thanks to the wonderful Nicole Price, I awkwardly went. And although AIGA appeared around town, I wasn’t aware what they did. Through Drink+Draw, it became clearer and quite fun! Where else can I sit at a hip workplace as the twilight skies engulf our scenic downtown, drink fancy fresh beers (wine and snacks, too!), rub elbows with our city’s moving and shaking creatives, and doodle my heart’s content for 8 bucks?

Sometimes, I worry about being out of place, trying new things and meeting new people. I mix and research chemicals for a living. I’m not a designer, nor an artist, nor a graphical professional of any kind. Nevertheless, AIGA and its members were very welcoming to me and the #catcult that grew from past Drink+Draw sessions.

Surrounded by designers and enthusiasts, I held a crayon in one hand and a beer in the other. Is this real life? I don’t know, but I’m a big fan.
