Barack Obama won the 2012 election, but he couldn’t have pulled it off without talented team. The Lead Developer for Obama’s 2012 Campaign, Daniel Ryan, and the Lead Designer, Josh Higgins, will join us on Jan 23 to chat about their experiences, what working for the President was like, and the fruit of their labor you might not know about. Aside from development work, Daniel's achievements include guest lecturing with the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and Lee University. He was also interviewed as an industry expert for Teach the Web by Leslie Jensen-Innman, a book about web standards and techniques with information from experts in the web industry.
Daniel has contributed to the Chattanooga, Tennessee community as an organizer of local programs and events. This includes serving as the Advertising & Branding Chair of YPAC for 2011, who also nominated him for Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010. Daniel also served as the founding director of BarCamp Chattanooga, a forum for the web community to share ideas and discuss various topics. From 2009-2011 he contributed time as the Technical Director for the Chattarati.com website, a Chattanooga blog dedicated to social and political activities happening throughout the city. Finally, Daniel served as an advisor to the Spring 2011 48 Hour Launch.
Daniel graduated in 2005 from Lee University, Cleveland, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis in Media. In 2006, he studied at the University of Manchester and was awarded a Master of Arts with Merit in War, Culture and History.
Originally from the Lakeland, Florida area, Daniel currently resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he has lived since 2000.
Formerly the Design Director for President Obama’s 2012 campaign, Josh is a creative who works across all disciplines including print, web, environment, identity and television. For over twelve years, he’s been refining the art of connecting brands to people with a concept-driven visual style that has earned him national honors. With roots in both advertising and graphic design, he has done extensive work for brands including Fender Guitars, The Tony Hawk Foundation, Hewlett-Packard, Qualcomm, Asics Footwear, Museum of Contemporary Art SD, CBS Radio, Perry Ellis International, RedBrick Pizza, IHOP, New Castle Beer, PF Changs, Yamaha, Life Technologies, and firms, Vitro,Mires/Ball, Hollis BC, and Miriello Grafico.
Before completing his design degree, Josh’s first career was as a musician with his band, fluf. The group has 7 albums out on Cargo, FAT and MCA/Universal Records, and has done national tours with Jawbreaker, Fugazi, Rocket from the Crypt, Blink 182, Sublime, Rancid, NOFX, The Vans Warped Tour and many others.
With a passion for creativity, Josh has curated successful exhibits and charitable projects in addition to lecture series with photographers, designers and film makers.
